Exploring Buddhism

I need to find this book.  It is the book that introduced me to Buddhism, and right now, I truly, truly need to find my path again.

  1. very interesting picture...

    hope u find your path...
its soo easy to get lost in this world we live in...
  2. Gama. (*word is it?)
Luck. Do that. And the universe will follow.
    Cho.
  3. Ok, I watched Charlie and The Chocolate Factory: How on earth do they name a character Willy Wonka? That's kids movie, well I thought!
  4. Something that a freind of mine once told me. According to the scriptures, the Buddha taught that in life there exists sorrow / suffering which is caused by desire and it can be cured (ceased) by following the Noble Eightfold Path.
  5. there's a saying that is contained in every religion/belief known to man, whether paraphrased or rephrased or quoted exactly. and if each & everyone of us lived by that belief, then there would be more love, peace and happiness in the world. it says: ''Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you" ... See, people need to forget about themselves, think less about their ego and think about the effects of their actions on the next person...
    Sho!Sho!
  6. ... hmm rasta bunny... that is not a common saying in all religion/beliefs (btw buddhism is not a religion nor a belief, but thats an argument for another time), it is not in buddhism.

... around the 1700's after the divine command theory (morality based on religion) was being debated, I think it was Hume or Kant, I can't remember, who said, the phrase or command, '... do unto others as would like them to do unto you...' was flawed.

His reasons were, imagine I was pervert and I liked flashing (wearing a long jacket whilst naked underneath and show people my goodies) and enjoyed the same pleasure from people flashing me. Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you? What if I was into pain+pleasure, what if I was into wars, fights,,, what if I enjoyed not be treated well?

... sorry, I couldn't resist, I learnt this whilst studying philosophy.

... alas I would say, the most common phrase is '... seek ye the kingdom of heaven, and all shall be added onto to you.' Even in Buddhist terms it make sense.
  7. darkies n all.

    awesome pic,

yo son (lebogang), sinah.org is like an escape for me these last few days, pressure on me at my new job has been mad thick. i cant seem to have time to do anything else, xcept of course to check out the site and u know have some normality back into mi lewe. anywhos, do you scheme the answers you're/ might be looking for, u'll find in that book?....the book could be like a reference to how u need to manage your actions./reactions, ha?
  8. ... I think so. not to say the book has the answers, but it allows me to explore my thoughts, without acting on them.

    ... if that makes sense.

... I just pulled a face like K does when she is not impressed about something I said.
  9. you see, Lebo.. that's where things go wrong!! people think about pleasing themselves, and don't really care how others feel... just because you like your a** to be pinched, doesn't always mean others also like to be pinched. DOUBLETHINK!!!! and any buddhist CAN...(not necessarily WILL, eish, this political correctness!) ... tell you that THE EGO IS THE DEVIL.... but that's an argument for another time ...(",)...
  10. ... yeah, the ego is a problem, i would not call it the devil though... i love my ego... surely some day some how some where i will let it go... which is why i need that book.

    ... word.
  11. A: so when was the last time you got laid?

    B: None of your business

    A: Do you even remember?

B: I said it’s none of your business

    A: Last week?

    A: Last month?

    A: Last year?

    B: Yeah last year. . . . . . . I am Buddhist you know

    A: Buddhist my ass….

    B: Hey that’s blasphemy!

A: Since when did you go Buddhist?

B: I have always been Buddhist, I just never realized it.

A: What the hell are you talking about?

B: Like . . . . . ok… I’ve been celibate most of my life, even though I hadn’t wanted to, now I know I was following the Buddha’s way without knowing it. I was predestined to take the seven steps to enlightenment.

    A: It’s eight steps.

B: Oh yeah and how do you know that?

A: And technically speaking saying Buddha my ass is not blasphemy cos Buddha was a man not God.

B: Oh yeah and how do you know that?

    A: Some one-night stand I had.

    B: You defiled a Buddhist?

A: And Muslims, Christians, atheists, hindus, next in line is a Taoist.

    B: God have mercy.

A: I forgot to mention agnostics.

    B: God have mercy.

A: And get you a woman.

B: The problem with you is that you want every ass that walks by.

A: The problem with you is that you dream too small. See you have to desire before you get, things won’t just fall into your lap, you got to want them enough to go after them.

B: All the problems in the world are caused by people’s desires. We want but we cannot get so we fight, ourselves and each other. The way to enlightenment is to kill all desire.

    A: Buddhist.

    B: Idiot.
  12. ... that was way to long ...
that reminds me... i need to setup dialogue.
